Liam - Fame at last!

By Philip - Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Liam takes part in a podcast at http://charonqc.wordpress.com/ Click the bottom of the post. He is bowled some difficult balls by CharonQC but manages to acquit himself well. We promise not to let the fame go to Liam’s head. The interview was conducted over the phone but sounds as if Liam is in a studio, so hats off to CharonQC ’s technical wizadry.

As we have not met CharonQC we will have to make do with visualising him. My own vision of Charon QC, extracted from his mellifulous tones, is as follows: distinguished looking, grey hair, glasses on the end of the nose, the occasional raised eye brow (Roger Moore style), with glass of red in one hand and silk cut in the other. Probably slightly eccentric with a streak of anti-authority about him. Anyone who knows him or have met him, am I close?

Sylvia

By Philip - Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Sylvia_1 Well on Friday we said goodbye to Sylwia (yes with a w). Slywia spent a month’s placement at PJH Law from Krakow’s university, where she is studying law.

She had originally taken a year out in 2005 to work in Edinburgh. Unfortunately her first job at an Italian restaurant ended when she was sexually harassed by the proprietor. She took him to Tribunal, won her claim, and fearing a Cosa Nostra type backlash, she moved to Manchester, where she worked behind the bar at Manchester United. She met all the players and attended the England Macedonia game.Sarah at PJH Law contacted her after reading about Sylwia’s sexual harassment story in one of those magazines you find at Dentists (Chat?Hello?) and we agreed a one month work placement.

Whilst she was with us, beside assisting on day to day office duties, she placed some ads in Polish print and digital media in the UK about problems at work. We were inundated with calls from Poles working in the UK, most of whom were not on the books, most earning about £2.50 per hour, very few with a written contract. Needless to say Sylwia worked tirelessly for them on a pro bono basis during her time here.

Anyway in her pin striped tie and suit and her love of photography, and coming from East Europe, we were unsure whether she most reminded us of Tereza or Sabina in Milan Kundera’s classic book the unbearable lightness of being. Highly commended for those who have not read the book or seen the film.

PJH sponsors PE Prizes

By Philip - Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

031106_1218 PJH were invited to sponsor the local school Casterton Business & Enterprise College in its annual prize giving ceremony.  PJH decided to sponsor two prizes and rather than giving the winners gold or silver plated trophies had these rather nice glass awards designed and made specially for the event.  PJH sponsored both the boys’ and the girls’ PE prizes for the school and the winner gets to keep the award. Watch this space for more information on the lucky winners.

Who is the daddy?

By Philip - Monday, November 6th, 2006

Who is the daddy? Mfsbaby The lack of hair should be a clue, the wide open mouth and tendency to dribble may also shed some light.

PJH Law is very pleased to announce the birth of Patrick Fennessy to Michael Fennessy, formerly a Solicitor at PJH law. Michael and his wife have returned to New Zealand and are now the proud parents of Patrick.

We wish Michael, Clancy and Patrick all the best.
