Christmas do’s and dismissal

by Sarah

According to a recent survey of 2000 employees by the CIPD, 10% of those surveyed know of someone that has been dismissed or disciplined following a Christmas party.  The reasons given varied but related to inappropriate behaviour at the Christmas party.  33% related to fighting, 20% threatening behaviour, 17% sexual harassment, 12% bullying and 8% other forms of discrimination.  The balance was just cited as inappropriate behaviour, misuse of the photocopier…. etc etc. I’m sure you can use your imagination on that one!

It will depend on the event but Christmas parties can be extension of the working day and whilst employees should have a good time, they need to act appropriately.  As Tony Parsons would say, “the stories we could tell…….”
