Employment Law e-learning - SAVE with e-learning!

by Liam

Saves costs

One of the main advantages of e-learning is that it saves training costs for employers.  Gone are the travel and subsistence costs and the course fees for external training courses or the four figure day rates for visiting trainers.  Online training also creates less paper and therefore reduces printing and other production costs.

Allows flexibility and saves time

E-learning can be a time saver. Better learning can be achieved in less time.  Learning tends to take place at home or at work, saving time spent travelling to training venues.  Learners can go at their own speed and fit the learning into their working day to suit them and to fit around work patterns, holidays and absences.  By causing less disruption to the workplace further costs savings are made by reducing any loss in productivity.  The use of technology can make learning more accessible and has the potential to reach a wider market than traditional methods of training, including home based workers.

Verifies understanding

Many e-learning packages enable employers to keep track of employees’ understanding of courses by recording their responses to quizzes, cases studies and exams. These assessments are scored by the Learner Management System which can also produce a certificate and saves a job for HR!

Easier to update/modify

As the resources are online, they are easy to update and change without the need for printing and copying. This is ideal for fast moving subject areas such as employment law.

PJH Law has developed an e-learning package called Dignity at Work which is an interactive training tool designed to raise awareness about discrimination, harassment and victimisation in the workplace. The thinking behind it is that employers can reduce the likelihood of a claim being brought against them by training their employees to understand the behaviour expected of them.  In achieving that goal it is likely that the training will also create a happier and more productive workforce. This fits in with the SAVE philosophy and goes further to become SAVES – the extra S being a saving in litigation costs resulting from effective risk management of discrimination and harassment issues.
