First female beefeater allegedly harassed

by Sarah

Back in 2007 the Tower of London had its first female beefeater in a 1000 year history with the appointment of Miss Cameron.  She qualified to be a Yeoman Warder after 22 years in the armed services but her appointment was a controversial one.  She claimed at the time that not everyone was supportive of her appointment when she started work at the Tower with her 34 male colleagues.

Now two male beefeaters have been dismissed after an investigation into a bullying campaign against her.  One of those dismissed has been talking to the papers and says his life has been ruined by the allegations, as he has lost his annual salary and reduced rent home at the Tower of London.  The allegation was that he swore more in her presence, avoided her and generally acted as a ring leader when it came to her unfair treatment.  He says he has been dismissed because “he is a man and because of political correctness”.

  1. Why do you say ‘allegedly’?

Didn’t the tribunal accept her evidence and reject his?

  2. He has only been dismissed so the Tribunal has yet to hear the evidence!
