Generous Maternity Payments by UK Companies

by Nicky

Employers rarely receive a pat on the back for generosity to their workforce, and are instead often criticised by their employees for a variety of reasons.

However, Personnel Today have revealed that a recent report by the Incomes Data Services (IDS), has shown that three-quarters of companies within the UK pay more than the statutory maternity requirement.

Let me remind you that pregnant employees are entitled to 52 weeks maternity leave, although only 39 weeks of which they are entitled to statutory paid maternity leave. The first 6 weeks of the 39 week period are paid at 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings, and the other 33 weeks are paid at a prescribed rate of £117.18 per week.

In addition, the report revealed that 52% of the 115 organisations believe that the statutory minimum maternity pay is too low.
