Honesty

by Philip

As Lawyers involved in cases where evidence is given under oath, we are on the search for the truth. I have found in 13 years appearing as a representative that most witnesses give a straightforward account and try their best to be honest. Sure some of them, I suspect, may have gilded the lily or over egged the pudding, but very few have been down right dishonest.

Watching Newsnight last night seeing Charles Clarke and Alan Milburn being interviewed the thought crossed my mind that perhaps the pair of them were not being as candid as they might have been. The real agenda for setting up their website about policy called 20;20 must be to stop Gordon Brown being PM. Both denied it point blank.

Which then got me thinking how many politicians are transparently honest? I drew up a mental list as follows:

the beast of bolsover

Clever man from Liverpool

Man of the people, ex aristocracy

Tells it as it is behind the buffoon persona

The Chingford skinhead

Brave enough to change his mind

I did think about including this man but he’s blotted his copybook recently.

It’s a pretty short list. Has anyone got any other examples of politicians we can trust? Let me know.
