Human Resources

Research conducted by the European Leadership Programme found that only 5% of employees recognise Human Resources as being fundamental to business survival. More than a quarter of employees surveyed felt that Human Resources expertise was the least important skill for their CEO to possess.
We have to disagree. In our experience good Human Resources departments are crucial when leading organisations through the tough economic climate. As imperatives to take businesses forward we would argue that Human Resources are up there in the top three, alongside (and holding their own) financials and business strategy.

Key word is ‘good’. Not many of those - but plenty of bad ones.

Obviously Richard has had plenty of dealings with HR departments to come to that conclusion.
My view is that in a downturn HR comes to the fore both strategically and operationally. Strategically in helping the business decide whether there are alternatives to redundancies ie short time, lay off, reduced weeks and operationally to implement any cost cutting proposals decided on.
