More strikes

by Sarah

The news today is rife with the story that baggage handlers and check-in staff may strike over the bank holiday weekend at three major airports.  Unite and the GMB union are balloting staff for industrial action.  This would cause major disruption at Gatwick, Manchester and Stanstead.

Given the school term it may have a bigger effect on those returning from the sunshine abroad ready for the new term at least as far as getting their baggage back is concerned.  The strike is over pay, as the union say that the Company has gone back on a pay deal last year which averted a strike last August bank holiday.  Is the timing a coincidence or is it timed to cause maximum disruption to give the unions leverage??
