Relationships at work…..

by Sarah

can sometimes land you in hot water!  Things can be fine whilst everything is rosey but it can then go pear shaped when the relaltionship ends.  In some cases employees abuse their positions of trust in having a relationship in the first place.  One example may be a teacher and a sixth form pupil.  We have also seen other problems where one party (or indeed both) is married and the employees have to be deceitful in order to carry on their relationship.

This is however a new one on me where the prison officer had a relationship with a prisoner in a young offenders institute considerably younger than her and got pregnant was a result.  She resigned before she was dismissed after CCTV footage revealed her going into his cell after lock down.  She was then arrested after she sold her story to a magazine dooh! and was jailed for 12 months for misconduct in a public office.  She received a further custodial sentence after trying to smuggle in mobile phones for her boyfriend and others.

So misconduct in some public roles could end up with dismissal and a prison sentence!

  1. It’s nice to decisively find a site where the blogger knows what they are talking about.
