Update on Statutory Dismissal Procedure

Employment Relations Minister Pat McFadden, told delegates at a TUC congress yesterday that the Government is looking at dropping lay members from the jury in some Employment Tribunals. He refused to reveal the official policy until the Government unveil their response to the Gibbon consultation, which are expected in the Autumn.
Those lobbying on the employer’s side want to axe the lay members in order to cut costs and speed up proceedings. The trade unions believe their presence is necessary to getting the right result.
