Who cares?

by Philip

There will be a new right for carers to request flexible working as a result of the Work and Families Act (which is anticpated this April 2007).  The DTI has this morning announced who will qualify as a carer under the new rules as “any employee who is or expects to be caring for an adult who is married to or the partner of an employee; is a near relative of the employee; or lives at the same address as the employee”. Near relative is given a very wide defintion to include everyone parents, parent-in-law, (adopted) adult child, siblings, uncles, aunts and grandparents or step-relatives.
